Restoring shine to 1983 Gibson explorer (Ferrari Red)

Recommended Posts

My exlplorer (bought new) is is a bright solid red color, not sure if there is clear coat, bit not a transparent wood finish.  In the area where my arm rests above the frets the finish is not dull.  Maybe from sweat, maybe from wear, I don't know.  There are no "bare: spots.  Is there some type of rubbing compound or rubbing polish I can use to restore the shine.  The rest of the guitar looks great.  I guess some would call it patina, but I would like to restore the finish if possible.  any recommendations.

Problem #2 would probably require refinishing if  I cared.  There are some fine cracks in the finish that run  longwise down the back/top  of the neck, in the upper fret area mostly.  Possibly cracks in the clear coat?  and Ideas what this is about.

thanks

Marc
