mikotoiii
Hey Guys, I'm just wondering what sort of extra information you guys can provide me about the SG VOS with the Maestro tailpiece. Any owners, how does it perform, etc. I'm looking to pick one up probably this week, but it has to be ordered down. Just want to make sure that I'm getting a great product. This will be my first big Gibson purchase, and i'm very excited. Thanks,
hbomb76
Try to get your dealer to request a good finish (meaning RED, not orange/tan faded). If you don't mind some of the "historical inaccuracies" it's a decent guitar. Not really worth a thousand more than a USA '61 reissue for basically a different neck joint and a Maestro, but alas, that's the only way to get the vibrola so we're screwed in that sense. Performance? Sounds good, just keep the nut lubed, and make sure the saddles and nut are burr-free. Good feeling neck, decent "vibe" even if it's far from the true "reissue" it's marketed as. hi13ts
I find it to be less hot in tone than the 61 Reissue, but the Maestro compensates for it....partly. It's a great guitar for classic rock and softer stuff, but if you ever want to cut loose Mick Mars style or any of the sort, you may want to get something else or swap pickups.
