Homz
IMHO I was just going off on a rant with my wife and drummer (Frank) who happens to be over at the moment. First let me just say I love many of the guitars in the Fender line so don't take this as Fender bashing. I simply think if you get a Fender why would you want a model that shows the wood grain. You all (as am I) are Gibson fans and so far as wood goes I've never seen a Fender that competes with Gibson on cool wood grain zebra or otherwise finishes. Fenders do have their thing in the cool colors such as 'Sea foam Green' or that cool sky blue one pictured. I just think if you want a Fender get one of the cool color options not a wood grain one. Again just my opinion. For what it's worth.

Tim Plains
I simply think if you get a Fender why would you want a model that shows the wood grain. Didn't you ever take wood shop back in school? Wood looks great, that's why. It doesn't matter if it's on a Gibson, a Fender, a desk, or a book shelf. It just looks great. That blue Strat above is one of the coolest finishes I've seen. Boston...I got both my R9s from an inside source, the rest were just luck of the draw. I wanted a Strat in this finish and I had to order it because there weren't any in stock. So, rather than order one, I ordered two and kept the one I preferred. Flight959
What are the main differences in say a Mexican strat and a USA strat.... A total noooob question I know... A friend of mine has just bought a Fender Strat and he paid around the £400 mark however I see some go for thousands.... NeoConMan
What are the main differences in say a Mexican strat and a USA strat.... Environmental restrictions on VOC's (from painting) along with cheaper labor. EVERYTHING is expensive as hell in California, regulations are put in place to strangle any business in the state. Seriously, I think the California state government would be happy if they drove everybody out of business. I'm right next door in Arizona, and the Californians have been streaming into here for years to escape. The factory in Ensenada Mexico is just a stone's throw away from the factory in Corona California. There are many parts in common, they are a decent guitar and a good value compared to the American ones. I don't know the usual source for your guitars across the pond, but after the American made stuff the Japanese guitars are damned good quality as well. I think they sell primarily in their home market, maybe you see some in the UK. The Mexicans are on par with the Americans in many ways due to parts commonality. After that, you go to the Squire stuff and then they get pretty cheesy. I don't even know where they make them now, China, Indonesia, Korea.....? Those guitars share no common parts with the American guitars, and many will not interchange.

albertjohn
Not the best photo but here is my Highway1 HSS. I love it. However when I see a used white body, white scratchplate and maple neck for a reasonable price, the Highway 1 may have to go. This has to be one of the top value for money guitars of all time! It's incredible.

elessar820
My 2007 Fender FSR Highway One Surf Green Strat with Fender Hot Noiseless pickups. Came stock with Custom Shop '69s. A 1997 American Standard I had for about week. Nice guitar, but I preferred the HW1 A group shot of my Surf Green and old HW1 Three Color Sunburst HSS and Midnight Wine MIM Strat. The HSS HW1 Strat is awesome. I wish I would have taken the electronics out of it or better yet could have kept it. It was my favorite guitar until I sold it to get my BFG.
