merciful-evans
Yes its not just Gibson. I think the fastest artificially inflated guitar prices have been PRS. The SE Custom 24 I bought in 2015 cost £500. Before the end of the year it had risen to £750. A 50% rise in a few months. Nor is it just retail. I cant find anyone to build me a garden wall. My guess would be the rise in the cost of the metabolic steroids they give their beeves to fatten them up. Or perhaps Micky D and BK switched to using KOBE beef! Problem is, They used to use better products but now, and it's been going on for a long time, They use the cheapest products they can find and load them with preservatives while shooting prices sky high. Didn't the food administration get on them for using what they called Slime, for beef? Here, they pay their employees up to $17.00 an hour or more at McDonalds.

Brucebubs
Supply and demand - there's a 10 month waiting list for the Toyota RAV Hybrid here in Australia - and a shortage of other new Toyota models too - owners of relatively new Toyota's are being offered more money than they bought them for from dealers desperate for stock.
SteveFord
My wife is making my life miserable and there's the cost of shipping and that pesky pandemic to factor in. It's mostly my wife who is responsible for the high price of everything. 1

kidblast
Is it even debatable? Everything has shot up, across the board. Restaurants are charging more for everything they serve Same money spent on Groceries last year buys much less now Lumber and building supplies are thru the roof Gas prices inching closer to $4 a gallon. So that guitar prices have shot up.... should be no surprise to anyone Edited December 4, 2021 by kidblast 2
Sgt. Pepper
Buy used. Its nuts too, but cheaper than new unless your looking for that elusive left in the closet for 50 years J-45. Disposable income goes up as the Minimum wage goes up. It’s basically doubled from $7.50 to $15.00 in the past 2 years. Extended Unemployment Benefits of course, led to the need for employers to pay more. Sort of like “supply and demand” as it affects Labor instead of Finished Goods. sparquelito
Used guitar prices have risen too, as others have noted. Interesting times. Kinda glad that I have most of my dream guitars already in hand. An early first generation BFG still eludes me though. Same with the Firebird I in Silver Mist finish. 🤨

What is next? Your wife making your life miserable? Truly, this is what's known as a "lounge" forum page, on which many topics other than guitars can be and are discussed. There's also a thread discussing a Beatles documentary. Oh! The HORROR!! As for "supply and demand"---- It's a paradox actually. One would figure since the start of the pandemic, which resulted in many people being put out of work and getting unemployment insurance, there's be little interest and money spared for unessential purchases like guitars. Thus resulting in a surplus of supply, which logic would suggest a reduction in prices in order to quickly dispose of that surplus. I would guess that Gibson, in order to recoup any losses faster than logically plausible, raised their prices in order to avoid the embarrassment of their executives being forced to drive last year's Lincolns and Lexus's.
