DanvillRob
I like to post the songwriter and performers of the songs I post on YouTube. I heard Moon Mullican perform this song on an old Grand Ol' Opery show (RFD-TV) a few days ago. I liked it so I picked the words off the TV show.... I've never heard it before or since. I Googled the song.... Googled Moon Mullican, and could not find it listed anywhere. I'd like to confirm that Moon wrote it..and when. Anyone ever hear it before? scriv58
https://lyricsplayground.com/alpha/songs/i/illneverletyoucry.html seems it has had some revisions over the years aka “the folk process”- here’s a version by Slim Whitman

That's the song.... it must have a 'muddled past'! The version I heard and recorded has a different meaning than the one by Alice Faye and Slim Whitman, but it's for sure the same song. The song credits are Lyrics by Sidney D. Mitchell with music by Lew Pollack.... but since it was written back in 1937 (at the latest), it's doubtful Moon Mullican wrote it. I suspect the TV show I watched was filmed no earlier than 1953. I suspect that's why it was so hard to find.... thanks for your snoop work! I'd never consider I'll Never Let You Cry as the same song! You know, Moon Mullican was also in a song writing "discrepancy" with "Jambalaya" by Hank Williams...he claimed to have a hand in writing that song too! dhanners623
Yeah, the "Folk Process" at work. For better or worse. If you want to see the Folk Process gone awry, try tracking down all the different versions of "Wabash Cannonball".... Fine job on the song! j45nick
I can't even hear the name Slim Whitman without thinking of the move "Mars Attacks!"

Slim Whitman's version is about undying love..... So, I was chasing the wrong song title..... I need to go back and review the song list of Moon Mullican to see if "I'll Never Let You Cry" is there, (I'm pretty sure I'd have caught that....but who knows....I'm old!). Thanks again to you and ol' "58"!
