How to date my Les Paul using POTS

Recommended Posts

I am trying to authenticate my Les Paul Standard (Cherry Sunburst) which was made for what Ive guessed in '72 but my POTS are reading only 6 digits 137738 and I was told the 6 digit codes only include the last number of the year. Does anyone have any experience with this? The guitar serial number only tells me from '67 to '72. Were they even making Les Pauls in '67?

Thanks in advance? Greg

The pots that had six digit codes were typically from the fifties or older but your number is odd. Les Paul Standards with humbuckers were only special order until the middle seventies. It could be a ‘73 but the sixth digit shouldn’t be higher than a 5. Could the pot have been changed?
