Happy New Year!

my wife’s grandfather recently gifted us with his vintage Gibson ES 125 TCD. We don’t know much about it’s origin and I’m hoping this forum could help us learn a little more about its era and possible age. I’ve attached some photos of the guitar including the serial number on the back of the headstock.

Any information (facts, guesses, or otherwise) are all appreciated!

thanks!!

The ES-125TCD (thinline, cutaway, dual-pickup, as opposed to other models with a TDC suffix indicating thinline, dual-pickup, cherry finish) was introduced in 1960 and discontinued in 1970. Yours is from 1961, based on the serial number. That is also the year when archtops, flattops, and solidbody models finally had the same serial number system.
