Wuxatl
Hi all, Can you help identify if this is a real Gibson or a real Chibson? Sold to me by Sam Ash as: 2013 Memphis Custom Shop Limited Edition All Gold ES-335 serial number ME 302291 Thank you so much!
Twang Gang
Don't recall that finish, but looks legit to me.
jdgm
As it came from Sam Ash I think it is legit. Also because of the way the tuners have been put on....unless it is the angle of the photo. I'm serious. Gibson are often/usually slapdash with tuner fitting.
Wuxatl
The only issue is that the serial number doesn’t match anywhere. Maybe due to the confusing Gibson nomenclature?
kidblast
a close up of the bridge would tell us a lot. and, what kind of tool is used to adjust the truss rod,, will tell you all you need to know. Hint.. the wrong answer is Allen Wrench.
jdgm
Serial numbers can be tricky - https://www.gibson.com/en-US/support/serial-number-search ME = Memphis I think 3 = year and it is either the 2291th guitar produced that year or the 291th produced, and built in the month of February...? Could be totally wrong though. The serial number format is different to this one - https://reverb.com/item/201603-gibson-es-335-dot-plain-top-2013-gold-unplayed Best wishes... Wuxatl
The truss rod nut requires a socket…….yes! I want to thank you all for your replies. I played at practice last night for the first time in year, and it sounded so smooth~~~~~
stantheman
Nice looking Box is my very first impression. I like it regardless if it was made in Memphis OR WeiFeng. The Truss Rod tools in the past would tell the tell. These days even the little things are pretty much exactly right on. Does She play nice? BIG Neck? Enjoy this love affair is what I say. stantheman
BTW, I've become an advocate for the Scarf Joint. After too many years of seeing neck repairs - a recent ES-295 that had a horrid repair that looked like Uncle Dave did with Elmer's and Beer, and too too many SG's it may be time for a rethink...
