Jinder
At my gig yesterday evening, as I set out to leave, the handle broke off my SJ200 case! Thankfully I managed to catch the case and crisis was averted, but I now need to find some way of replacing the handle. I’ve owned the guitar from new since 2016 and I’ve taken it all over the world with me, so any warranty that may have been in place regarding the case will be well and truly expired. It’s the case with the softer leather covered handle rather than the hard plastic unit. Any tips on how I can obtain a replacement and how to fit it? dhanners623
Glad you caught the case so there was no damage to the guitar. Where, exactly, did it break? Did the plate that anchors the handle to the case come off? Or did the handle part break, leaving the plate intact? Would this work?https://www.allparts.uk.com/products/leather-replacement-handle-w-buckles-for-guitar-case Edited April 11, 2022 by dhanners623
J185cat
Some years back the combination lock/latch on my AJ case broke. After some research I found that TKL had an office in Virginia. I called them, described the problem and the sold me a new one over the phone. When i got it I took the case and new lock to a local shop that repairs luggage. The did a great repair job and no issues since.

Thanks... when I looked up luggage repair, they listed a bunch of shoe repair places..... I'll have to call some.....but I thought the latch was pretty common....but you had to buy a latch from TLK....so I need to research that..... zombywoof
Yeah, back in the day we could bring cases into any luggage repair place. Chalk that one up to another experience from a bygone era. Luggage repair guys have gone the way of the tube testers you would see sitting in front of counters in any Sears and any hardware store. Dave F
These on Reverb and EBay looks nice.Depends if you still have something to attach them to. The last one is in case you need that style which would probably need you to peel back the lining to install. https://reverb.com/item/49508458-just-in-case-black-leather-gibson-style-replacement-guitar-case-combo-amp-handle-cp66?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=12293041879&utm_content=campaignid=12293041879_adgroupid=114838722142_productpartitionid=1170763577959=merchantid=519942358_productid=49508458_keyword=_device=c_adposition=_matchtype=_creative=497393521577&gclid=CjwKCAjwo8-SBhAlEiwAopc9W4pSe9MUze13ztDbRhLR8z2d1XQRVWaaR7mIhE5KVhsPdOpZfnteLBoCw1kQAvD_BwE https://www.ebay.com/itm/324163454285?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&itemid=324163454285&targetid=1262749492022&device=c&mktype=&googleloc=1017751&poi=&campaignid=15428034462&mkgroupid=133947154481&rlsatarget=pla-1262749492022&abcId=9300763&merchantid=113601930&gclid=CjwKCAjwo8-SBhAlEiwAopc9W_ddDNjMLiI8zTq8i4fOAk6kRVvDx47s-XuKLLBEbGZcGV119aLLnBoCCxYQAvD_BwE https://www.ebay.com/itm/255236207643?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&itemid=255236207643&targetid=1262749490102&device=c&mktype=&googleloc=1017751&poi=&campaignid=15428034462&mkgroupid=133947154481&rlsatarget=pla-1262749490102&abcId=9300763&merchantid=8493084&gclid=CjwKCAjwo8-SBhAlEiwAopc9W_916O8OZtlZpD0xPQ0xPNeoB2-wg8uCawVOsuKmj5hs4GdhMub5AhoCFNsQAvD_BwE
fortyearspickn
Yep. The luggage shop I used 10 + years ago - gone now. Here's what I found that looks to be a close match: https://www.amazon.com/CynKen-Leather-Musical-Handbags-Instrument/dp/B07RWZDGJC/?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_w=o5j3I&pf_rd_p=bbb6bbd8-d236-47cb-b42f-734cb0cacc1f&pf_rd_r=4M41PSVDRVFX2WS7C86A&pd_rd_r=6c3b06f0-04cb-4ff6-b31a-ffbaa516e29a&pd_rd_wg=n0p7H&ref_=pd_gw_ci_mcx_mi&th=

Jinder, I love fixing things like that, the best part of the exercise being figuring out how to do it. I find it to be very theraputic. If I lived nearby, I'd do it for you just for the fun of it. Hope you have good luck getting it repaired. RBSinTo
E-minor7
I had the problem and went to the local leather-smith - a shoemaker. He kept my purple plush 1965 Gibson case for a loooong time and when I re-contacted him the answer was : "Have patience, something is on its way." Hereby take this thread as an opportunity to show what the good man came up with ~ Still very grateful. .

fortyearspickn
Tube Testers !!! Another spec of dust dredged up from the basement of my mind! I use to love going to those old junk 'antique' stores in the small towns and see things my parents had. Stopped when I started seeing things I had. Still had. Jinder
Thanks all! I’m looking into ordering one of the replacement handles with buckles-it’s an in line fitment so that should buckle straight up to it. Eventually I’ll park this case in favour of a nice lightweight SKB or Calton, but a fix ej have to do for now. Thankyou for your help and advice! Not sure of their availability outside the US, but check out Crossrock cases. They are the poor man’s Calton. Got one (in yellow!) for my D-18 clone and it survived being checked as baggage just fine. VERY well built, sturdy fiberglass, and they have TSA locks. They cost less than a Calton. https://www.crossrockcase.com On edit, it appears Crossrock cases are available through Amazon UK. Grog
I drill the rivets out of both the old handle & a similar new handle & bolt it on with a couple small thread screws, nuts & acorn nuts…..
