ndavis1971
I just got some custom made Peter Green PUPS from Monty's. I am looking for a great Les Paul (Murphy Aged ones look really nice), OR LP style guitar (such as a Collings City Limits or Yuri Bone or Bartlett Retrospect), for the PUPS. I am most interested in wood/tone as close to originals. Not interested in the Brazilian rosewood fretboard because I do not think it's worth it. Obviously to play some...vintage Mac stuff! Please give me some suggestions.
Rabs
Hello.. Well that is a very generalised question.. And not being rude or anything but I think finding a LP or whatever to fit those pickups is a bit of an odd idea. Usually people have a guitar they like and put different pickups in them. I guess it depends on how much you want to spend. There is no specific guitar for what you are asking.. The original LPs were made with very light weight old growth Honduran Mahogany which I dont think you can get any more. You can still possibly find small amounts of it here and there but like the Brazilian Rosewood its tightly controlled these days. I guess if you want authentic you gotta go for an R9? (1959 historic replica). 1
ndavis1971
Thanks. Picked up a heavy relic Murphy Lab LP made 2022. All I can say is—wow. Super resonant and vibrates like crazy unplugged. Totally different finish than production line stuff. Even the hardware is aged. It is as good as the Nach Banos Tele and Strat I have. Which are perfect. Rabs
Nice.. Are you really going to take the Gibson pickups out? Id say they are pretty good pickups... Can you post a picture or two for us? (we like to see the guitars we talk about) 🙂
Dub-T-123
Which LP model did you end up going with? I’m sure a lot of us (myself included) would love to see pics If you change the pickups out and want to sell the original pickups send me a message please. I really like the custombuckers and I’d like to get another set Congrats on the new Les Paul. When you find the right one these custom shop LPs are really special
ndavis1971
Well after playing it I think I’m keeping the stock pups in it. Really special. Right at 8 lbs. Custom “Bourbon Burst” from Fuller’s. Amazingly resonant and loud unplugged. https://ndavis1971.tumblr.com/post/682913146744291328
Rabs
Nice.. And good. I am glad you kept the pickups... Gibson may do many things not perfect but I have to say, I love their pickups.. I think that have that down just right.. Here let me embed for you. It is very very nice but I have to say (and this is just personal taste) I think they go way overboard with that aging. But hey..
NighthawkChris
@ndavis1971, my LP R9 comes in at 8lbs 3oz and super nice to play. I understand what you mean about having an 8lb guitar being nice. BTW, nice guitar. I like it and hope many years of enjoyment to you 👍
