Mr.Moore
Hey there I was wondering if there's an easy way to replace the traditional (Gibson Les Paul Junior like) wraparound bridge by an "adapted" tune-o-matic bridge or even roller bridge? Sometimes I see people playing LP juniors with bigsby trems but I can't tell how these kind of bridges are called. Please see the attached pics at the end of my post to understand what I'm referring to 🙂 So any ideas how to handle the bridge issue that will come up by adding a tremolo behind a wraparound bridge based guitar? Would love to read some of your thoughts! MM Edited April 17, 2022 by Mr.Moore
jdgm
These bridges aren't wraparound, however they are not intonatable and perhaps that is what you are getting at? They are known as dogbone bridges due to the shape of the aluminium baseplate. It may be possible to replace the actual bridge section with a tuneamatic or roller type. However height, bridge post width and post spacing are very critical. A replacement roller bridge for instance - the roller saddles may be just a tad too high to make the bridge useable - I discovered this the hard way on one of my guitars! You need to get those measurements and then perhaps make some email enquiries to guitar hardware suppliers. I can't help much more as I am in the UK. Good luck! Mr.Moore
Thanks jdgm! I've just stumbled across this little thing here:https://g-gotoh.com/product/510ub/?lang=en What do you think? It might not have the right string saddles though (perhaps too sharp for tremolo action?). Happy Easter holidays from Germany! MM
jdgm
Sorry I think I'm missing the point. I don't understand why you want to put a wraparound bridge on if you still want to use the Bigsby. Where do you want the string ends?     Or is it so you have either/or?  Gotoh make very good products but to fit that one you would need to enlarge the holes in the guitar top. Look at these designs - 4 of these get used with (Gretsch) Bigsby-equipped guitars. https://www.gretschguitars.com/support/specs-explained/bridges Best wishes!
kidblast
if the plan is to keep the bigsby, but change the bridge, you would need to just find a suitable ABR replacement bridge for a Gibson. start looking around at All Parts.com or Stew Mac the question is what is the setup if you remove the dog bone? threaded posts is what you're looking for. All Parts: https://www.allparts.com/collections/bridges that should give you something of an idea of what to look for in your locale.  Edited April 18, 2022 by kidblast
mihcmac
This "StetsBar trem" is the only direct replacement for a wrap-around bridge I have found that requires no additional hardware, screw holes or spring cavity and doesn't need a roller bridge because the the bridge moves with the trem. There are several brands of roller bridges for ABR replacement, I have several Duesenberg Les Trem II's with which I always include a roller bridge. https://www.google.com/search?q=roller+bridge+for+gibson&sxsrf=APq-WBu1Uuz9roZY0crTPj9kiXzJ8U9SGA:1650307678145&source=lnms&tbm=shop&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjB5bOXo573AhWcD0QIHaVBDHgQ_AUoAXoECAEQAw&biw=1279&bih=686&dpr=1 Edited April 18, 2022 by mihcmac
