VIQ
Hello everyone, I hope you are well, I need your experience and knowledge to identify an Epiphone Sheraton without a serial number. It seems that it is from the beginning of 1990, but the seller wasn't sure either... Also, I can't identify the brand of the head mechanism. Here are some pictures if you want to help me : (pickups , electronics and pickguard have been changed as you can see) Thank you so much ! pohatu771
Without a serial number, I can only estimate 1990-1993. The tuners are Ping.

The original pickguard would have been a great indicator of which part of the early 90s it is from. I'd still bet it's 1990-1993, though. I'm very confident it is not a 1989. Matt4356
I can't offer any more information other than to say I have a 1993 Sheraton made in the Samick factory. This one I assume would also be Samick from the bridge. Mine has the same ping brand tuners. Mine however has the serial number and Made in Korea screen printed in gold on the back of the headstock. The tree of life inlay is also slightly different on mine to this one. The one thing that seems to be fairly consistent until early 2000's is a lack of consistency! jmendoza
It looks identical to my 1989 Korean Sheri. But is has replacement pick-ups, the pickup rings and pick guard are not original, gold pick-up covers came on the originals. Someone added a cream Les Paul parts: pickup rings , pickguard, and switch position ring. So it has "new"look compared to the original. I would put covers back on the pick-ups to reduce the 60/120 Hz noise you get when they are removed, and get rid of the cream colored plastics as they are out of place. I removed the original pick-guard which had 5 ply binding but made from imitation printed tortoise shell and looked really cheap. I cut one from 3 ply black pickguard material and copied the shape of a ES-335 dot pickguard. Someone obviously replaced the pick-ups, as the originals really sucked. I put PAFs in my MIK Sheri, and that woke it up 🙂 Not exactly sure when, but sometime before the millennium, Epiphone discontinued the fret nibs on the binding, which had been a long standing Epi and Gibson high quality feature. Gibson then also quit doing the fret nibs on all guitars except the Pauls, which was a shame . I think this is why the early MIK Epis are now more valued than later Asian produced Epis.
