marco mancini
I ve got a couple of firebirds , one from custom shop and the other normal i wondered why they chose not to put the binding on the custom shop model in those years (2016) cheers https://ibb.co/7nYvfHH
merciful-evans
Its pretty much impossible to discern why/how Gibson make these choices. In your case, its nice to have a choice though.
rct
Because some didn't have binding, and that's what they were knocking off? My 66 non reverse had no binding, that kind didn't. Just a thought. rct

rct
Nobody bought a guitar back then with an eye to re-fretting, re-sale, all that. It was bound or it wasn't, that was pretty much it. Binding is and was a build cost decision, not a consumer may have to re-fret decision. rct
NighthawkChris
Binding is fancy, but Gibson had issues at times with the tangs on the frets sprouting into the binding on the neck when the wood shrank a bit from lack of humidity in an environment. This is another thing to think about, because I've seen it where fret sprout was so bad it basically chopped the binding fret-to-fret. Binding is just nice to look at. That's about all you get from it.
sunking101
I prefer no binding. Plastic cheapens the feel of the fretboard for me. It's a shame that almost all Gibsons have it
