Hans Brehnfors
Hi, I´d like to ask: my LP Classic - I got the information it is a 2003. When I check it up the webiste says it is a custom. This confuses me, can anybody tell? Serial number 034628 Best! Hans
merciful-evans
There are many serial number check sites. They all can give conflicting info because Gibson re-use serial numbers and this can become very confusing. You know you have a Classic. Enjoy it. pohatu771
Les Paul Classics use a different format than typical Gibson USA instruments, based on the format used in the 50s. 9 xxx (only three digits after the 9) is 1989. 1 digit, followed by a space, then four digits, is 1990-1999 (using 0 through 9 as that first digit). In 2000, the space was eliminated, so it starts with 00. Yours, being a 2003, begins with 03. Gibson Custom used a similar format for some models. The serial number decoders are a good start, but you need to know what you're looking at.
Sgt. Pepper
Gibson changes is serial number system every 5 weeks, so its hard to keep up with it.
