2017 gibson sg standard T , why so bright ?

 I am borrowing one of these guitars from  my friend and I am finding out that this guitar is wicked bright , as in bright treble response.

 I actually have the tone down to five when I’m playing the bridge pick up and then it gets dark very quickly  . 

 I really like this guitar and might give it a new home except for this over abundance of treble.

 

 Any suggestions ??

It’s got a ceramic magnet, I believe, correct me if I’m wrong. I think that’s what makes it so bright.

None. 

Other than using that tone knob.

You could try lowering the pickup a little...

Yes the tone knob goes dark pretty wuick after being bright.

Maybe choosing both pickups will take just enough  edge off the brightness.

My SG-X had a really hot ceramic pickup that came with a coil tapping switch that I rewired to take the coils out of phase which was how I used it most of the time.

That doesn’t help if he wants to only use the Lead/Treble pickup.

Well, I thought getting rid of the, "over abundance of treble" was the goal.

Not specifically using that particular pickup.

But if that's the case, then like I said, using the Tone knob is the only option.

Unless lowering the pickup worked.

I don't know,  what's tone and volume controls on guitars if you can't use them

My "Bonamassa " approach, 

volumes at 6

Lead tone 6

Rhythm tone 4-5

Adjust amp for volume and tone.

The tone settings on the amp being used haven't been mentioned

If your amp is setup for a muddy guitar to drive it, if you put a bright guitar into  it, it will sound brittle. Gotta take control of your knobs..

If you liked the guitar except for that one problem...I'd change the capacitor on the tone pot.  About a $10 fix.

But is there anything wrong with running the tone on 5?  Seems OK to me.

 Actually I am liking this middle position on the guitar with both the tone controls rolled off to about eight and then a roll  off the neck pick up also to about eight and play in the middle position . Good sound thank yall 🙋‍♂️

i also just dropped the treble side of the pickup about 1/16 of a inch lower then the bass side. 

It made a difference.
