80LPC Posted April 8, 2009 Report Share Posted April 8, 2009 One of the ways to repair a broken headstock is to 'backstrap' with a veneer. This is then shaped down to a point. Sometimes during manufacture, if it was felt that the headstock timber was suspect, it would be backstrapped. It's ironic that a stinger has been applied to the Zak's 3 piece maple neck, as it is relatively strong. It makes an interesting cosmetic effect though.
