Just purchase a new Southern Jumbo. Specs show open back tuners, but mine has Grover Rotomatic tuners.

Has anyone else purchase a new one lately?

Gibson changes specs like porn stars change partners.

I seriously doubt a new Southern Jumbo will have Rotomatics. Who did you buy it from? What year is it? How about posting some pictures.

Yep, it clearly states tuner are open back.

In case you have never seen it, this blub is on the page just under where it says Miscellaneous:

I’m not complaining the guitar plays really good. Just wondering if anyone else bought one recently with the rotomatics.

When I figure out how to get pics small enough to post I’ll post them.

Below the specs on the Southern Jumbo it states;

In order to continually improve the design, quality and performance of our products and instruments and to make use of the best materials at all times, Gibson reserves the right to change specifications without notice.”

If it's any conciliation, I bought one of the 2020 '42 Banner SJ a couple years ago. The tuners were white plastic open gear. They were so cheap they squeaked every time I used them. I replaced them with Waverly's. I'm sure the Rotomatics are better quality than what I received,

I've never understood the disdain for the Grovers. The ones on my J-45 RW/ebony are nearly 20 years old, most of the gold is worn off. They look great and work perfect.

I find Rotomatics very ugly, but as they say, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". But that doesn't seem to be the issue here - taking the OP at his word, Gibson did not build his guitar to the specs they have published. That is just wrong. If they are going to do that then the specs should be updated on their site or some explanation should be provided for the change. I would also be unhappy about this.

I agree with the functionality and reliability and I have them on some of my guitars.  I really like the locking versions I have on my Chet CG. Aesthetically I prefer the white button looks on some acoustics and the lighter weight. I prefer the look of Imperials on some guitars. I prefer the look of black buttons on some guitars. I prefer chrome butter beans on my Martin's.

I had the ones shown on a Hummingbird. I swapped out the buttons for pearlized. Did not like the look. If I remember correctly, the one screw that holds the tuner on is in line with the standard Waverly's and Grovers.

Agree,  the ones I've got on my J45 Custom are nearly 10 and work great.  Look clunky,  can't see the gear, which is cool.  But I supose it keeps the dirt out.

I've had both on my acoustics, and never have I ever had to get out a can of compressed air and blow, any crud out of an open back tuner.  Where is it that you play yours, in a mud bog? I play mine in my house.

Many manufacturing companies have been suffering all kinds of material supply issues, due to Covid and more lately the war in Ukraine interfering with world trade. The economy is truly global these days and supply chains are interconnected. I bet the change in tuners is due to some kind of supply issue.

I agree, but that's no excuse for failing to notify customers of the change. No "supply chain" is needed to update their website and provide an explanation to their dealers and customers.

This is on Gibson's website, and the reason they put it there, is so they don't have to inform everyone when there is a change. It's their easy out, and what makes it the company you guys/girls/what you identify as (wanted to include everyone so I'm not seen as that guy) know and love.
