I have a chance to purchase a like new /used copy of this book. There is one local to me that has Rens' autograph in it , and I was wondering how much the autograph would boost the value of the book compared to Amazons used price for copies without Rens' autograph. The seller is willing to let it go, but not sure what to ask for this "special" copy. I have no idea what to offer.....Any idea guys?

I don't know about Ren's autograph, but I saw a new, sealed copy of this book at an antique store the wife and I were at this past weekend. They were asking $40.00

Thanks for the replies so far. I too have seen new copies ranging from $40 to $80 at Amazon and other sources. I'm really curious about how much value you'd think Ren Fergusons' sig would add to the asking price for the same book.

i wouldn't think very much. i didn't buy mine as an investment, just a good resource of info. just so happened the signed hard back was the first one in encountered so i bought it. i later found a paperback copy i paid 50 bucks for and have since sold for the same amount.

I don't know about Ren's signature, but the ones where he's picked out the PAPER -- now THOSE are worth a fair bit more! :-k

Man, I need to check Amazon, because lat time I did used copies of that book were going for $500 minimum, and only a few to choose from.

The Ren Ferguson-signed hard copy that sold on Ebay a month ago for $89 had a torn/wrinkled dust cover, and some "warped" pages. I personally paid $135 for a pristine paperback copy (unsigned), which was too much, but it all evens out on Ebay for me, and I didn't miss any mortgage payments at that price.

Since we're speaking of insanely expensive books that used to not be expensive, I'm looking for a reasonably priced copy of Epiphone, the House of Stathopoulo, by Jim Fisch.

Just in case anyone has an extra laying around. Sorry for the rude thread hijack.

How come the paperback has become so expensive?

I bought it a couple of years ago for a normal price (can't remember exactly how much).

Have I missed something?

I bought my second copy (the first one now sits in a humidity-controlled, ultraviolet light protected display case, with an alarm) in the late '90s for about $1700.

Came with a free guitar, AND a bone saddle!

Lot's of great feedback here' date=' and I appreciate it. Just a FYI , Amazon dot com has the paperback available for pre-order, 2009 edition , for $19.95 . Due to ship November 09 if I remember correctly.[/quote']

Amazon has had this book available for pre-order most of the time for several years now, with the predicted shipping date moving farther and farther into the future. Things may have changed, but I heard that Eldon gave up on the idea of finishing the second edition after David's death. I hope it eventually appears, but I'm not holding my breath.

I would be surprised (pleasantly) if this book is reprinted. After all, it went into the cut-out bins first go-round, and you have to wonder how big the market would be for such a book.

Well I went ahead and bought the book. It is the limited edition hard cover, number 1956 of 5000. Signed by Ren Ferguson and whoever was president of Gibson in 1994. It is new and still in the protective plastic envelope. I'm pretty stoked , it makes a nice addition to my music room !
