E-minor7 Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 You'll never guess the southern part - (no it's not a Southern Jumbo). Quote
gearbasher Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 Since you posted it in the acoustic section and it has a crown fret marker, my guess is a J-200. Quote
egoidealmusic Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 I'd second the J-200 guess, though I'm not sure why anyone would do that to a J-200! Quote
MorrisrownSal Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 Without the scroll I’d want to say 60s firebird or thunderbird? Quote
Twang Gang Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 Not enough strings, but those curly headstocks usually came on Mandolins. Quote
kidblast Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 Well, Alls I can say--- if that IS a J200, someone needs to be slapped.. really hard... 1 Quote
RBSinTo Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 What was that slogan they used to put on their headstocks? " Only a Gibson is ugly enough" Feh. RBSinTo Quote
E-minor7 Posted July 20, 2022 Author Posted July 20, 2022 Post 2 and 3 nailed it like gunslingers of old - gearbasher, egoidealmusic 1-1. Then Kidblast arrived, , , creator, , ! take care out there. . Know very little about it. But sure, a mandolin h-stock was mentioned as inspiration. To be frank I think it's a freak. Quote
Kwlsky Posted July 20, 2022 Posted July 20, 2022 The headstock looks like it got caught in a meat slicer. Quote
egoidealmusic Posted July 20, 2022 Posted July 20, 2022 This just makes me sad. I'll take the blue guitar or any of the others we've discussed. This is just wrong... Quote
gearbasher Posted July 20, 2022 Posted July 20, 2022 I can't un-see it. I'll have nightmares tonight. Quote
Dave F Posted July 21, 2022 Posted July 21, 2022 Reminds me of the Martin's with the Bigsby headstock and the Fenders with the big strat heads Quote
Holiday Hoser Posted July 21, 2022 Posted July 21, 2022 I'm totally in the camp of "It's yours. Do what you will" Quote
DanvillRob Posted July 21, 2022 Posted July 21, 2022 Somehow that headstock style looks good on an F-Style Mando....and ugly on a guitar. Quote

Sgt. Pepper Posted July 21, 2022 Posted July 21, 2022 (edited) Lzzy Hale might want that headstock on her next signature Explorer guitar, but it has no place on a (S)J-200. How much would that sell for if it was the one David Gilmour owned that is being sold now on Reverb? https://reverb.com/item/56288345-1985-gibson-j-200-celebrity-david-gilmour-collection Edited July 21, 2022 by Sgt. Dave F Posted July 21, 2022 Posted July 21, 2022 I had this for a while, but didn't take to it. Quote

Let's see. I could buy that guitar, or a really nice house. Oh wait, I can't buy either. But that is a crazy price! Quote
DanvillRob Posted July 22, 2022 Posted July 22, 2022 What kind of gall does one need to sell a guitar for $325K and then charge $150 to ship it! Quote

DanvillRob, Nothing new here. If you peruse any expensive guitar listings on ebay, Reverb, or wherever, you'll see this is the norm. Everything is sold a la carte. Nickel-diming without shame if there is extra money to be extracted from the buyer is the new philosophy of many sellers. RBSinTo Quote

I suppose if you have a quarter mil to spend on a guitar, $150 for shipping wouldn't phase you. Quote
