I was thinking the same thing, the plating worn off. Perhaps the previous owner used it as a palm rest. As far as the E string... it's female.

yea I think is really is probably patina from plating wear. 

Same kind of wear you'll see on many 80s era Epiphones

I can't imagine the color of the metal under the plating as naturally being pink.  And considering skin oils or oxidation I'd figure some other color would show.

Yes. When I worked in a machine shop, they called this 'rusty fingers'. Scott Grove had to change strings mid gig sometimes. Those players have no choice but use coated strings all the time.

Overwashing the hands. Covid must have been a blessing for string makers.
