sglover61 Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 Hi there, I recently purchased a Gibson 2021 SG Standard 1961 and I want to remove the arm off the sideways vibrola but I'm not able to find a proper way to make it. Here's how mechanism looks like without cover. Any idea? Quote
Sgt. Pepper Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 (edited) Gezzus. That is some feet of mechanical engineering? Its got fulcrums and pivot points and springs and leavers. Edited August 4, 2022 by Sgt. Pepper Quote
sglover61 Posted August 4, 2022 Author Posted August 4, 2022 I'm software engineer, this is not my area haha. I want to remove the arm, not all the mechanism to use like this one Quote
SteveFord Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 It looks like you'd have to put it in a hydraulic press (or improvise something with a large shop vice) and press out those three those pivot bushings. I'd leave it, that's what makes the model what it is. Quote
merciful-evans Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 I've never seen one of those uncovered before. Looks impressive. Looks like it wouldn't work anymore if the whole arm came out, and I would think the remaining parts would not be captive either (they would rattle or fall off). But the extension part looks easy enough to lose. Just a nut to remove. Interesting. Quote
kidblast Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 holy smokes.......... I've never seen the innards of one of those. good luck! Quote
SteveFord Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 Those two long bolts should hold it together, you're only removing the pivot points. I wouldn't do it. Quote
merciful-evans Posted August 6, 2022 Posted August 6, 2022 I can understand why he'd want to. I would too. I think I might remove the whole assembly to get a better idea first. Quote
SteveFord Posted August 7, 2022 Posted August 7, 2022 I remember Charlie Brown saying don't touch it if you want the guitar to stay in tune. Quote
Alfa Posted August 10, 2022 Posted August 10, 2022 I think it' s possible to remove the arm but you must install a MojoAxe VibroStop http://www.mojoaxe.com/ Quote
sglover61 Posted August 16, 2022 Author Posted August 16, 2022 Hey there, thanks for answering. I only want to have the cover not the whole system like he has... It's just a kinda rockstar wannabe thing haha. Quote
