For a brief period Gibson went to yy at the beginning. None of the serial number dating websites seem to account for it. They assume ydddyrrrr which means they give an incorrect result. The OP's (a year ago now) guitar could actually be either 2020, or 2022. Just one of many good reasons to decide on a format and bloody stick to it.

I guess just starting at the number 1, and then the second one built is number 2, and so on was way beyond anyone's comprehension.

You need slide rules, dial wheels, and Ovaltine secret decoder ring to figure out a Gibson serial number. And in the grand scheme of it all, it's just a number.

In automotive vehicles, it took 17 digits to get it right, although one is a 'check digit' to catch you if you try to change the VIN.
