Tim Plains
So, what's the best bang for the buck in the 2009 Gibson Les Paul line up? One year ago, I would have said the R8 was easily the best bang for the buck. Now they cost to much.
Jesus Is Dead In My Basement
I still say the Traditional is the best bang for your bucks since i think they should i have left the Standard alone in the first place. I would take a 400 dollar cheaper Ebony Gibson Les Paul Traditional any day over a Chambered Plus Top Standard.
daveinspain
Might be the new Raw Power LP nothing fancy but a nice guitar at a good price... I also think the LPVM is great bang for the Buck...
retrosurfer1959
I'd vote for the new Traditional Pro - weight relieved not chambered, Coil taped and waxed BB3 and 57 classic, nickel hardware gloss vintage finish with satin back and neck even pleck'd all for under 2k what's not to love. A lot of people talk about the VM and while it might be the cheapest overall still have to take into account that's it's still so FUGLY...
BFG 28
you cant rule out the standard for this look at what it comes with tone pros locking bridge and tail peace, asymetrical neck (very comfy), Grover locking tuners, bourns gold plated pots, and locking input jack. for about 2500 canadian not bad. and yes the traditional is great for the price but the tuners suck and the wheght releaving is just holes drilled where ever in the body with no thought or purpose but lowering wheght. the chamberd bodys are desined for resonance and more tone and lightness. Jesus Is Dead In My Basement
the traditional is great for the prices. In my opinion the Traditional should be worth more, Its a great Guitar for any price.

TinFish
Traditional/Traditional Pro... I don't know if either are a particularly good bang for your buck. But for Gibson Les Pauls they are both reasonable and are both nice.

I don't know if either are a particularly good bang for your buck. But for Gibson Les Pauls they are both reasonable and are both nice. Well when you compare them to the Custom Shop Les Pauls they become very cheap guitars. Hell even the Les Paul Standard is cheap compared to a Custom Shop. Hell even the Les Paul Standard is cheap compared to a Custom Shop. Yeah, for a Gibson Les Paul they are where I would spend my money. I just have trouble calling a $2500(Can.) guitar a good bang for your buck. I might just be cheap though or have different priorities than others. daveinspain
A lot of people talk about the VM and while it might be the cheapest overall still have to take into account that's it's still so FUGLY... Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.... The VM is a very classy looking guitar. OK, it's not all shinny and it doesn't have any flames or anything but it's a cool looking guitar... Now the BFG is another story
Tim Plains
for about 2500 canadian not bad. http://www.long-mcquade.com/?page=products&ProductsID=1487 the traditional is great for the price but the tuners suck and the wheght releaving is just holes drilled where ever in the body with no thought or purpose but lowering wheght. the chamberd bodys are desined for resonance and more tone and lightness. No, chambers are designed to reduce weight, just as the swiss cheese holes were 30 years ago. They can market it however they like but the truth is, it's to reduce weight. Otherwise, every Standard they pumped out would be 10 lb +.

Duende
This is off topic to the original question, but I feel as guitarists, we are so lucky we can get such great instruments for such reasonable prices, compared to other instruments! for a few hundred £ $ you can get something that stays in tune/expresses your abilities, for £1000/$1000 you can get a pro sounding instrument! Murph
Go on Laugh!! My LP Studio...... KICKS arse!! Flight959 Worth every penny!! +1. I was reading this thinking. My daughters '08 Les Paul Studio is a glossy Fireburst, nice finish, gold hardware (she picked it, I didn't used to like Gold, but it works with the Fireburst and no pickguard) 490R/498T, nice case, ect. I got it for her Birthday last Nov. for $1217.00 American, as I recall. Musicians Friend (special email discount thingy), no tax, no freight. The VM is cool and all, but this burst looks as good as it sounds. If I liked a single cut, I'd buy myself one in a heartbeat.

P.L.E.
Yeah no kidding Murph, the gold hardware really compliments the fireburst finish. Say, does anyone know what other LP models are available with the fireburst finish? (Not meaning to hijack the thread!)
