A dumb question about installing an SD Woody...

Hi All,

I feel like a real moron having to ask this question, but here it goes...

I bought a Seymour Duncan "Woody" humbucker to install in my acoustic. It came with no instructions; just the pick-up, the cord (obviously), and a little carrying bag.

I put it in the soundhole, but basically, all I did was wedge it in, where the foam is. That seems awkward, and I have a feeling I'm doing something wrong. Is some of the foam that holds it in place supposed to be removed? Am I doing it completely wrong? The last pick-up I had was a Fishman, and it was easy b/c it came with "clamps" with screws that held it gently in place. But this is new to me.

Any guidance would be most appreciated. I have a gig tonight, so I hope I can resolve this by then!

Thanks,

Jeff

I've used those pickups for years. Actually, I use the Dean Markley version -- but it's basically the same.

I think "wedging it in" is exactly how you do it. It's supposed to fit with the foam against the top and the wood extending over the top. I put it under the strings with one side fitted properly against the top and push it until the other side will go into place.

I've never liked the way the chord comes out, but it works and sounds pretty good to me. Plus it is very easy to remove when you want pure acoustic sound.

If you can take a photo, we can tell you for sure whether you have it right.

BTW -- I cut one down (the wood and foam) to use in an oval hole octave mando. Sounded really full.

Thanks! I think you're exactly right. I looked on YouTube and the SD website, but neither was any help. I just sort of wrestle it into place, and it stays put very well. I don't like the cord running out either, but I was surprised at how good it sounded, and overall, it is very easy to take out when I need to. Basically, I only need it when I gig, which isn't all that often.

Best,

Jeff

ps - I can't deal with responding to NeoConMan's outrageous postings anymore; he's almost like a parody!
