Talibah
Hi . I would be grateful for some help to identify this guitar, bought a sample display, needs some work. Has a great sound so bought it. On closer inspection I thought it could be a real Gibson. What do you think? without a serial number or sticker and a replaced sound post cover. Thanks Talibah
j45nick
100% fake.
zombywoof
I am not up enough on Bozeman-made guitars to make any kind of a call as to whether it is a real deal guitar or a fake. I cannot tell from the photo whether there is an orange label in there but if not, you should see a big red flag waving. But I do recall a run or runs of the J200 Parlor (which I cannot tell if this is or not) with what I think were called Paua Shell or something inlays which look a whole lot like those on this guitar. So, you might get busy and do some looking and check out the features such as pickguards, headstock veneer (or lack thereof), whether the guitar comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, and such. slimt
Agreed with above. 100% Fake.
Talibah
Thanks for your input everyone. Zombywoof I will follow your advise and do some of those checks. The sound is great and it looks pretty authentic. If anything I have a decent guitar.
Talibah
@Zombywoof. Checked out the J200, the headstock logo resembles mine. which helps. If this is a fake it is a really good one. I know that some Gibson's did not have the label inside, or serial numbers. Would be good to know for sure. Thanks..
gearbasher
I agree that it's fake. But, I think it's pretty.

Twang Gang
Looks nice, but it is questionable. Blue body with green neck, and the ornate purfling are suspect. One sure sign of a fake is what is under the truss rod cover. Easy enough to check. Edited October 6, 2022 by Twang Gang
Sgt. Pepper
No serial number on the back. The headstock looks like arse. The volute looks like it was done by someone who has been an apprentice for about 3 days. I'm going fake.
QuestionMark
The neck volute certainly should not be on any current Gibson. Something is wrong here. QM aka “ Jazzman” Jeff
gearbasher
If you want other indicators that it's fake: three screws in the TR cover -- tuners aren't stamped Gibson or Klunson Deluxe -- contours on the top of the headstock aren't quite right.
zombywoof
Not sure where you heard or read "some" Gibsons did not have a serial number. That might be true if the guitar was built in the period from mid-1945 through 1947 but this ain't one of those. No FON or serial number means not a Gibson. That should have been your first tip off the guitar was inky.
Sgt. Pepper
The truss rod cover has 3 screws and looks like it belongs on an Epi.
Talibah
Thank you all. To be fair it wasn't sold as an authentic one. I thought I might have stumbled on a find. Thanks for the feed back. I can just enjoy it for what it is. Not bad for 50 quid.
gearbasher
50 quid, according to google that's $56 US at today's exchange rate. Hell, I would have jumped on that also knowing it's a fake
Talibah
@gearbasher.. 🤣🤣🤣 Right..I took it down played it, liked the sound then bartered for a discount because of the missing peg. Noticed it said Gibson and not Givson like their others. Didnt think it was real, but the feel and the sound was great, so thought Id get some feed back, in case one slipped through somehow to this wholesale shop abroad. Thanks for the feedback everyone. zombywoof
As long as you realize while it is not illegal to buy or own a counterfeit guitar it is illegal to sell. If the law is interpreted the same as it is for bootleg LPs and CDs though it might be something you could trade off. Talibah
@zombywoofNo..I wouldn't sell it..Ive been looking for a guitar abroad, It's hard to travel with one. Plus I'm not a collector or a professional guitarist. This is good enough for me thanks..Plus I'm not into dodgy transactions..It just happened to be the best sounding guitar in the shop..💓
Jinder
Not a genuine Gibson but very cool looking nonetheless! At £50 you got a deal on that. Enjoy!
Sgt. Pepper
I wonder how long it is going to take to turn her arm, hands, and clothes that blueish- green color? Edited October 7, 2022 by Sgt. Pepper
