This is what a REAL SG looks like.

ah' date=' see I've never liked the SG's that dont have the full pickguard, like the 61 reissue. I just think that those guitars just dont look very appealing, and they just don't make me want to play them. Maybe it's because I'm a Les Paul player, I don't know...[/quote'] Yea, the full pickguard looks good, but the half guard guitars sound better 'cause the pickups are mounted directly in the wood, not suspended from a piece of plastic. That's why I traded my Standard for a '61 RI.

Axe -

pop the pickguard off and have a look inside.

Most Full pickguard Norlin / CMI era SGs 1966-76 are already routed for 3 pickups = a significant amount of wood is missing under there= a significant lack of tone compared to pre '65 SG standards - like Duane's in the 1st post. Also most '67 SGs had a skinny Nut - feels like a Fender Duo Sonic - instead of the '61 SG Standards that have the wider Nut spacing and more "meat" to the fretboard.

With my big hands i can barely play a 1st position A 7th chord on a '68 SG - the Nut width is significantly narrow - compared to a '61
