callen3615 Posted April 11, 2009 Author Posted April 11, 2009 Yours or the sales man? It will be an epic battle, no one will leave unscathed.
KSG_Standard Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 Try not to get any blood on the expensive guitars...
callen3615 Posted April 11, 2009 Author Posted April 11, 2009 I have never been to a GC' date=' for better or worse. [/quote'] its for the better, trust me.
callen3615 Posted April 11, 2009 Author Posted April 11, 2009 Ok, im back. I waited 15 minutes for some 9 year old kid to get off a marshall. I played a lp traditional, im trying to figure out if i can play a 50s neck....i think i can (small hands and all) The first thing the guys asked me if I was buying today. I told him yeah if he would take 500 bucks for it.
RichCI Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 Thankfully, there is a great music store locally that I always go to: Russo Music Center. But, even if they weren't an option, living in NJ between NYC and Philly has it's advantages.
Gitfidl Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 They are the same everywhere. They must hire the kids (or their parents drop them off while the go to the mall). That's apparently who they see as their customer. They don't ask a kid if he's buying today. He's not. Moms -- they buy. GC in La Mesa must be exactly like the one in Trenton (or Chicago or St. Louis or Memphis.) Men will buy a woman anything if she nags long enough -- moms will buy kids anything if THEY nag long enough. GC knows it's just a matter of time. Anyway that's how you find the price comparisons and th you go and buy fom a real store. I confess to browsing there a couple times a month -- doesn't change much. The inventory is greatly reduced (especially the higher priced inventory) ... much cheaper junkier inventory now. (eve Martin -- lots of cheap Martins). Fewer Taylors and Gibsons. There are several brand that don't sell to GC -- Washburn, Collings, Tacoma, BlueRidge, Carvin .. none of those. No Hamers either. GC has a "formula" and some sellers will not do it.
RichCI Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 Mr. and Mrs. Russo, owners of Russo Music Center. Really great people!

Gitfidl Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 The GC is like an auto dealer (but the time periods and specifics are different) They get a certain price if they agree to take umpteen guitars a month (say 1,000) They owe the manufacturer or distributor nothing for (say 60 days) and after that they owe %5 a month until they pay their invoice. That's how car dealers do it. But as you saw with car dealers .. when sales fall off they start going broke (because they are paying interest on all the cars). Then the cars they are paying interest on are "competing" with the ones they just got and there hell to pay to clear the lot. So they have clearance sales. Well little mom/pop stores cannot do that. They know they will have the guitar in their store for several months and there are just so many slots on the wall. They do not get the same price as GC and they do not have the same flexibility. So they have to "throw in" service and a higher level of customer satisfaction (whatever that takes). You can just imagine a ship coming to the US filled with containers and some of the containers are filled with guitars -- or band instruments or keyboards -- whatever And somebody has to figure out how to "get rid" of them. (I always wonder where do all the new guitars go? There must be hundreds of them rotting in garages and attics and kids closets. You never see them again -- as on Craigs list. They just evaporate. (Esteban -- he alone sold several container loads of black guitars)
