BigKahune
In 1973 I talked a buddy out of 1965 Melody Maker for $60 - that included a 1964 Gibson Explorer amp (he wasn't playing it anymore after snagging an SG). In 1977 I had enough money to mod it into a popular pup setup (at the time), moved the trem back a bit to make more room for a Schaller Badass bridge, Grover tuners (refinish). I bought and sold other Gibsons over the years but could never part with this 65MM. Still plays like a dream - I shaved that 60s neck a bit more. When I got it in 74, it was Cardinal Red with some checking and headstock wear. Here's a recent shot

TinFish
1998, I worked for about a month to save up for it. It was an Ebony SG Special that I am now selling.
nynvolt
1. 2005 2. sg faded special 3. Didn't save for it, bought it on a whim (couldn't believe it was only $600!) I've owned various guitars through the years, but after playing the sg I was hooked. Last year bought a SG standard. The only guitar I had to save for was my first, a second hand no name strat clone. Was $20.00 which was quite a bit for me back in school. Lot's of mowed lawns, trimmed hedges and weed pulling during the summer to get that thing. It was trash but actually did play it until my fingers bled.

MG
those sg's are things of beauty man Thanks man. I really like the sound I get from the mini-humbuckers, but the neck at the nut is just too damn narrow. I might be getting rid of it soon. The neck on the custom is great, I love it. It's nice and wide, and a little thick. The only complaint there is that I'm not really digging the '57 in the bridge position. The '57 in the neck sounds amazing though.
