How much Equipment.

Recommended Posts

How much Equipment do you have (Including the stuff put away right now) and what do you think is over kill. I had some people over that are in a band and they were telling me I have to much equipment for any one man. I've been buying equipment as long as I remember and I'm the kind that holds on to it. I might have a few pieces that I might think about getting rid of but it's paid for and not hurting any one sitting there. Also if you do talk to any one about selling it, they tell you how old it is and want you to give it to them. Most of Ya'll have seen most of my gear. Would you have this much if you could. Not that I'm going to sell it, Just wondered if you agree with these guys. [-X

I laughed my co*k off after seeing all your gear.... Jesus where do you store all that stuff.... Do you have a stage truck to lug it around in..?

Nice one Mr Tari ;) =D>#-o

There's probably 40 guitars here, a few banjos, a couple ukes, an upright bass, a couple electric basses, a 1941 mini upright piano, a sitar, an autoharp, chorded zither, a couple mandolins, about 30 violins, a couple violas.... I think that's it, but I'm sure I've forgotten something. Not a lot of amps though, an '88 Peavey VTX, a '73 Ampeg GT-10 and a few little amps.

And in all that mess I only have one pedal, a Behringer delay I bought at cost ($13). Not a big pedal pusher am I.

I can't tell someone else what's overkill for them, but I don't see me ever having that much equipment. For one thing, my house doesn't have the room for it. I certainly wouldn't turn down an opportunity for a few more guitars, but I don't see it happening anytime soon. Two amps are plenty for me. I actually have two more not pictured. A little beat-up Fender Squire and a Fender Stage 80 that's kept at the drummers house. We use it to run the keyboards through at practice. I think it might be considered his now just because it's resided at his house for so long. :-k

The ME-50 has all the effects I need. I even got rid of the Cry Baby recently.

Heh! I use 4 pedals with my band (one of which is used for just one song) and 2 pedals on a regular basis at home (one being distortion). But, I love pedals as they're fun to play with and sometimes you're looking for a particular sound that can be had with only a particular one so it's nice to have options. Besides, if you're going to have a lot of gear, at least pedals don't take up a heck of a lot of room.

I have a flager pedal I never use' date=' and an acoustic simulater that sounds like crap.[/quote']

A flanger is the pedal that gets used for just one song with my band. It's a really wild one and a bit large in size but it does sound really good for that one song. I'd like to get one that's a smaller size like a Boss or MXR as this thing is total overkill for just one song and the type of sound I'm using it for. Foxrox Paradox TZF

The main pedals I use are an Analogman King of Tone for a clean boost to whack the preamp of my amp and an Analogman Beano Boost (treble booster) for aggressive solos and heavy metal sounds. The other one is a Foxrox Aquavibe which, as it sounds, is a vibe pedal that I use for several songs and sometimes during solos if the mood hits me.

It really depends for me. I would probably not get rid of any guitars, but I have given away a couple of old small amps to some guitar students who needed something. Their families were way on the low end of the poverty side and the kid had an old electric guitar, but no amp so I gave him one that I only used when teaching.

Other then that, I'm like you where I just keep it because it's paid for and not hurting anything.

I don't know...I think "guitar players" have a lot more guitars, than we need, just because we love guitars! Amps, too.

Pedals? Some love 'em, other's don't so much. I'm perfectly happy with a good tube amp, and a guitar, with an OD pedal,

for the times I want/need one, and a Compressor/Sustainer (for my Ric 12-string, mostly). But, I have a bunch of guitars,

and several amps...both tube and SS/Hyrbrid. I tend to use them all, at various times...not together, but they do get played.

So...if you're happy with lots of gear, why not?! "Need" rarely comes into play, when we buy guitars! At least, not after the

initial "needs" are met...IMHO.

Cheers,

CB

I'm also in the "I have more gear than I need" group but who cares? As long as it's not an issue with your wife' date=' interfering with paying bills on time, or your children's future, keep doing what you're doing. I know I'll own a few more guitars.[/quote']

No none of those, Daughters married and lives in up state new york. House and property in the mountains are paid for. Cars are paid for, Boats paid for. Just the regular Elec. and gas bill thats it.

I say that you're entitled to buy and keep whatever the heck you want and answer to no one about it.

Well, except for the wife or girlfriend and I think we all know how that goes. ;)

Sometimes I feel that I have too much. I am allowed to have as much gear as I want: my wife doesn't care; we aren't broke; we have room; etc. I just don't like having gear around that is unused or only occasionally used. It bugs me. I guess I just don't have the collector type of personality. I constantly get rid of things I don't use (occasionally buying it again later admittedly). In fact I am thinking about getting rid of some stuff now. Hey if I haven't played it in a while what's the point in having it right? I'd like to get down to just a couple of amps and one of each Strat, Tele, Les Paul.
