tcheatham12
Hello! I am new to the forum! I played this used Gibson acoustic yesterday at my local guitar center. I believe the tag said it was a Gibson Hummingbird artist. I don't really think that is correct. It appeared to be different wood than the artist and definitely a different pickguard. Can anyone help me figure out what this guitar might be? It was not vintage, just used. It has a Sheryl Crow-type pickguard. Gold grover tuners. A pickup. Umm...i know this is not much help but I really liked it but was skeptical as to what it was. I didn't have time to talk to the GC sales guys. Anyway, is this just a used Sheryl Crow guitar? Anyway, let me know if you have any idea. I have searched for photos of it and everything and have not found something to be similar. (Besides the Sheryl Crow) Thanks for any help!! tcheatham12
You know what...I think it might be a Gibson Songwriter. What would be a good used price for one of these?
Rosewoody
The H-bird Artist is a somewhat smaller body than "standard" H-bird, same faded burst, plain p-guard, gold tuners, hog back and sides, with undersaddle p/u. It features a Songwriter sized body; prolly is a Songwriter with 'birdburst. Sheryl Crow is tinted top, same size as H-bird, white-button Kluson knock-offs, pretty much same git as the standard H-bird, just plainer. I've seen NEW artists at GC (recently) for $1599; I would say a good price is $1000 to $1200 used. Same w/Songwriters. The Artist is a very nice guitar, as is the Crow. TheLiveSoundGuy
Did it look like this one? If so, it could be a Gibson Country & Western model. Also, which Dallas GC was it? I can maybe find it online. And welcome to the forum by the way.
Watchdogg
Did it look like my avatar? You might be confusing with the original or real hummingbird. I have had my HBA for 4 months and love the tone and vibe of the guitar. I think is sounds better than the '69 hummingbird it replaced. It is very bluesy with a soft voice, true Gibson tone but unique to other Gibson models. Despite being a GC exclusive it is a very nice guitar. larryp58
Didn't Musician's Friend have that guitar for sale starting last year? It looks a lot like a Songwriter. Same pickguard, small dreadnaught body, aged mahogany finish.
tcheatham12
Hmm.. i am not sure if it was on sale at musicians friend. It looked just the one in the link below but the tag didn't say anything about it being KOA it just said GIBSON SONGWRITER. That was all. I will swing back by there tonight and try and get some more info! Check out this link for what the guitar looked like! http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product?sku=520204
