spike wolters
In the seventies the so called "harmonica" bridge (an ugly thing imo) was introduced replacing the tune-o-matic . As far as I know it was mid seventies . I have seen several SG's up for sale fitted with such a bridge (original) , the owners stating the guitar is from 71, 72 ,73, even 1969 . Can any one tell me (for sure) when the "harmonica" was introduced?
80LPC
When the SG was redesigned for 1972, there was a switch to the Schaller long travel bridge. I think it was phased out during 1979. My '79 SG has one. Maybe the bridge had been fitted to some other Gibson model prior to '72, but I don't recall seeing one. It's not exactly pretty, but it is very strong - and it cured the problem that people were having (not enough intonation adjustment).
jimmiJAMM
I love the Kraut bridge on my '78! A true engineering marvel.
