lespaul16
Hey guys, im sorry if i havent posted this in the right place or anything but i thought you guys would probably be able to answer this question my question is basically during these guys soloing they sometimes have, its hard to describe a kind of the ability to have two different sounds in solos and i was wondering if anyone could tell me what it is wether it be a technique or even a scale change or emphasis on different notes or degrees some examples of where you can hear it would be on Rock n roll train -3.27 theres a lick but you can hear slash and agus even get that same different kinda sound or on back in black the live solo, the one featured on the ac/dc live cd back in black(live version) - starting at about 2.17 its done by slash in numerous songs, i think youll get what i mean if you hear it thanks very much

surfpup
they sometimes have' date=' its hard to describe a kind ofthe ability to have two different sounds in solos[/quote'] Hard to know exactly what you mean without an example - a youtube link maybe. However, they might well be alternating between the minor and major pentatonic, as this is quite a common technique and it does indeed sound different. Thundergod
Are you talking about the wah effect (when talking about slash?) or is it the way he plays?

Perhaps he's just angling his pick a bit differently in various parts.
lespaul16
(to RichCI)hey, sorry i might actually be making a big deal out of nothing haha what im trying to get at is that, take for example on the rock n roll train solo the main solo, then take the example at the time i wrote, they sound to me, (perhaps its just me haha) different, in the, might be the phrasing or even a switch to major pentatonics. if you get a chance, see if you can hear what i mean

Kolera
The only thing I hear on both samples around those areas is a shift from the E-A-D strings to the G-B-E strings. If you know what I mean. Could the explanation be that simple?

lespaul16
okay, i think its a change between major and minor pentatonic. ill post like the tab for the lick thing im on about in rock n roll train and it might help e|----8--8^10--8--8^10~~~~-10----13^15-----| B|-10------------------------10------------| G|-----------------------------------------| D|-----------------------------------------| A|-----------------------------------------| E|-----------------------------------------| e|-15----------------------------------------| B|------13----13-15-13------------------12^--| G|---------14----------14-14p12---14~~~------| D|-----------------------------14------------| A|-------------------------------------------| E|-------------------------------------------| e|-----------------| B|-------------12^-| G|-14~~~~~~~~------| D|-----------------| A|-----------------| E|-----------------| okay thats tab i found for the lick im on about what i was asking about, is i think he swtiches to major pentatonic, what im basically getting at is why at the solo, around 2.25 the main solo of the song does it sound different to the bit at 3 minutes 25 seconds, which i think is that lick above^
