1985 lefty Flying V - is this alder or mahogany?

Recommended Posts

So I'm pretty sure the neck is maple. I bought this guitar around 1999 from a pawn shop for $450.  The finish was all screwed up (it used to be white), I had it professionally refinished back then, don't even remember what it cost.

I think the neck is maple (I know very little about wood). I'm curious if anyone can tell me based on the wood grain whether this is alder or mahogany? It has a really low growl (much more so than the 2018 V I have), so I'd assumed mahogany, but I really have no idea? Thoughts? Pictures linked.  1985 lefty Flying V
