Homz
Who was the most overrated band ever? I'm going with 'The Sex Pistols'.

NeoConMan
Over rated? Lots of them, but I never thought of it as a contest with one winner. Not a Who fan really, but I understand the appeal of some of Townsend's work. Big meaty power chords are cool. Along those lines, I would say The Rolling Stones. Half a century of rocking, certainly a large influence on players and fans the world over, but most of their music leaves me cold. Seems like it's all about attitude and the guitar work to make me wanna jam just isn't there. I like a few of their songs, but there's yet to be a Stones song on the radio I like enough to turn it up and tell my wife to stop talking..... :- In reality, I would say ANY of the bands with no band. If they were on MTV dancing, prancing and lip-synching to programmed keyboard music, I have no use for them. I don't care how many records they sold. Michael Jackson, anyone? FirstMeasure
Pete Townsend had a few good songs, but they're very much the same. The Who didn't really push any envelopes. They often get credit (or should I say Take Credit) for inspiring the 60's scene. Townsend has even said Hendrix broke up his stuff because The Who did. jannusguy
KISS. what a joke. finally got around to it and wandered into one of their shows about 10 years ago. lasted 30 minutes before i was in my car and down the road. they played like a sloppy, crap, bar band with million dollar production. cliched, hackneyed BS. hats off to the business model, though. PT Barnum was right, there's a sucker born every minute. thank god my tix were comps.

The Beatles forged the road of Rock music and took it out of the basics and Hendrix turned it upside down and electrified it....

FennRx
thats the beauty of subjectiveness. the beatles were in the right place at the right time. but as for their music, isolated from the time, culture, etc , is quite boring and in some cases just plain stupid. sorry. jimi hendrix. good guitar player. strat into marshall changed sound of rock. dont care for his music. sometimes i hear a song and a get a chill and i say, I have got to learn that!. i have never had that happen with Jimi. i dont know how to play a single hendrix song and i dont intend on learning. FirstMeasure
Metallica. They're credited for creating the Speed Metal Genre, but it was dave Mustain that gave them the material for their first album, and much of the next two. He was technicaly a better singer, guitarist and songwriter than all the Metallica boys put together.
