woofa
Hi Guys and gal's There's a Gibson Hummingbird for sale in my area but something doesn't seem right. It's advertised as a J45 hummingbird. But in my research I don't think there's such a thing??? It looks like a j45 but says hummingbird on the truss rod cover. It also doesn't have a bone nut and has a standard looking pick gaurd?? Every hummingbird I can see online has a unique shape and or detailing on the pick guard. Please see attached pic, let me know what you think cheers
Twang Gang
No such thing. A J45 is a slope shoulder guitar, and a Hummingbird is a square shoulder guitar. What is in your picture looks like a J45 with possibly a Hummingbird truss rod cover? Doesn't mean the guitar in your photo is a fake Gibson, it's just not a Hummingbird model. Here is an actual Hummingbird, (note the bird on the pickguard):
woofa
Thanks Twang yeah that's what i suspected, possibly real Gibson j45 just no a hummingbird. Owner claims it is as new and purchased from a reputable dealer
Larsongs
This type of Thread has become so commonplace here it’s crazy! Someone could start an Appraisal business! What documentation does the Seller have to prove it is what he says it is? If none.. I’d want to take it to someone in the know to verify it’s legit.. Or pass.. Too many Guitars out there.. Good luck Edited February 9, 2023 by Larsongs
the other side
Appears someone put a Hummingbird truss rod cover on a J45 to drive the price up for someone who wouldn't know what they're looking at. Personally I would not buy it from whoever did that.

Owner claims it is as new and purchased from a reputable dealer speaking of truss rod covers: ask for a picture of what is under the truss rod cover if it's a 5/16 hex bolt, that's pretty much a very good indication it's NOT fake. slimt
If you wait for a couple of months. Gibson will see this post . And make it a part of there line up in Guitars. btw the truss rod cover is a replaceable item. Edited February 9, 2023 by slimt
