Not many of us girls here.... we must stick together! :-$/ Callen' date=' I hope you're leaving the pigeons alone?? ;-)[/quote'] so youre a guitar player! i cant play. wicked, can you play guitar at all? i do have a little girl that can... her 1st little electric from santa when she was 6 her 1st little cheap acoustic when she was 5-6 now she has a little Martin. here she is playing one of the first things she learned.... sorry the video sucks, it was taken on my cell phone & its only 10 seconds long... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9i44LfiELc and this is her playing while actually READING music! it was a big deal to us she learn to read music (since her daddy can not) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLKja9srXIQ
wicked1 Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 so youre a guitar player! i cant play. wicked' date=' can you play guitar at all? i do have a little girl that can... [/quote'] Ah...well, sorta. I know a few chords, but I play everything in the key of G. I bought an acoustic guitar when I moved to Indiana to go to grad school (Go Cards!) because I knew I wouldn't have my piano to keep me company. Then I married Homz and he flat-out told me one that I sucked at guitar and I haven't touched one since, really. I will occasionally pick it up when I'm trying to write cause it's easier than trying to keep the piano quiet while everyone is sleeping.
pumpkin Posted April 15, 2009 Author Posted April 15, 2009 Then I married Homz and he flat-out told me one that I sucked at guitar and I haven't touched one since' date=' really. [/quote'] same here.
wicked1 Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 She's a doll!! We let our son choose what instrument he wanted to learn with my only requirement being that it had to require him to learn to read music. Twenty instruments in the house and he decides on violin. Naturally, there were none of those in the house! I wish that he would put some effort into any of it, though. Stuff comes too easily for so long that when it gets hard, he just wants to quit.

wicked1 Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 He's 9 as well. Homz has told them the first one to learn to play the Stairway to Heaven solo can have the LP when he's dead & buried. Since our daughter will not actually plug her guitar into the amp (insisting she can hear it just fine without plugging in), I doubt she's gonna be seeing Gibson in her future any time soon!
milod Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 .... Old man here... <grin> You girls whose spouses told you your guitaring "sucks" should burn their suppers. The important thing isn't whether you're technically good or not - even sometimes if you're playing for money if your other capabilities could cover that lack. The important thing is whether it means something to you. Funny thing too, my most successful "student" never got all the fancier technique, but had three or four major label albums in the 80s. Cynical old man here sez if comments on pickin' bugs you now, just wait. More's coming. Some of my ladies over the years were decent guitar players and excellent singers, some were lousy at both. Some could help with sound even though they had no other musical ability. But a feeling of partnership ain't bad regardless; even if you're lousy, pick and even sing at home. The rug rats probably won't care if you couldn't carry a tune in a bucket if it were printed on sheet music. Girls ... I dunno. I've known too many my Mom's age - and that's ancient <grin> - who waited until the old man croaked before they started at age 80 or so what they really wanted to do for themselves. Sheesh. Then folks wonder why there's little "communication?" Oh, well. I may have short gray hair but I guess I'm still the rebel rocker in ways. <grin> But then, I ain't got kids either. They're kinda like elephants in that they're fun to watch every now and then but I'd hate to have to feed one on a regular basis.
