Notes_Norton
Greatest female artist? Hard to say, how can you compare singers to guitarists to pianists to violinists to whatever. But since this is a Gibson forum...... For guitarists I would count the late great Emily Remler in the top 10 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emily_Remler And she played an ES-330 (retrofitted with humbuckers)!!! And for bassist it would have to be Carol Kaye. Who is not only the greatest female bass players, but one of the best bass players ever to grace the planet, and veteran of over 10,000 recording sessions including thousands of songs you know by heart http://www.carolkaye.com/ That's my $0.02 anyway

wicked1
Greatest female artist? Hard to say' date=' how can you compare singers to guitarists to pianists to violinists to whatever. [/quote'] See, that's why I'd have to lean toward someone like Dolly Parton who can flat-out sing like a bird, play her instruments, and write a damn fine song to boot! Same goes for chicks like Chrissie Hynde or Tori Amos.
Cruznolfart
Too many to say. But it seems odd that in a group of guitarists (more or less) Bonnie Raitt's name doesn't get mentioned. She's gottten better and better over the years. Another one who's improved substantially in just the last 10 years is Susan Tedeschi. Both multi-talented ladies.
