I recently saw a 1989 Pre Historic Les Paul 59 reissue sel for around $2100 on Ebay... I was so tempted to bid on that guitar, it was gorgeous. I just don't know anything about the Pre Historic Pauls... Can anyone shed some light?

In the days before the 'Historic Division' and, later, 'Custom Shop' re-issues Gibson had already been trying, since about 1980 to accurately re-create the '58 - '60 Les Paul. There are the 'Heritage 80' Standards etc...etc... These tend to be referred to as 'Pre-Historic' instruments for obvious reasons.

There is a lot of information on these instruments on the 'Les Paul Forum' website.

Prehistoric Les Pauls are made from petrified wood and have dinosaur bone nuts.

That's a joke.

Sometimes people take my jokes seriously.

...Damn you beat me to the joke. Prehistoric indeed...
