1982 Gibson Chet Atkins CE: how to fix ground hum?

Karl Adams

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I own a 1982 Gibson Chet Atkins CE. Preamp, separate volume controls on board seem to work just fine. Nevertheless, there is a substantial ground hum. The hum almost completely stops when i touch the end plate, the volume/EQ-mount plate or even the shield paint on the left side top of the backside cavity where the board and battery are stored. The cavity seems to be painted with special shield paint; the plastic backside cover is shielded. The battery holder is placed on the shielded backside cover.

Is there any (quick) fix to this issue?

Thanks so much for your time and attention.

Have your guitars always had this problem or did it start later?
What do you amplify guitars with?
Is your grounding okay? (I mean that of your apartment)

@Karl May I have photos of the wiring of the jack, volume and tone control?

Excuse me for my bad english...

Hello, I took the guitar  to someone who knows how to fix and set up guitars, but there is still some low-frequency noise coming from the low end..

It's still playable like this, but i want to fix it..

And I still don't have a solution to this problem..
