Southern Jumbos and J45s

The J-50 was just a natural-top J-45. I think the Southern Jumbo is the same, but jazzed up with bling for the market segment that liked/likes that. My understanding is that southern dealers requested a J-45 with bling, and hence the name.

Can't speak to the newer ones but over the past 45 or so years I have played a whole lotta older J-45s and SJs and hands down the SJs always seem to be louder with a more woody sound and crackling edge. Makes absolutely no sense - must be the neck binding and board inlays. Ay any rate the J-45s all went bye bye.

Gotta say it - I have owned several 1950s J-45s and several 1950s SJs and always favored the SJs to the point where I don't even go and check out J-45s any longer cuz I know there is little chance I would take it home (even if I could afford it). Not saying it makes sense but it is a fact,
