Slogold
Looking to get a Mic but have no clue what to get. I have a handful of Karaoke mic lying around but I don't think that they are ideal. I will primarily use it to mic my amp that will be plugged directly to my PC sound card (SB X-Fi Platinum) mic input. Give me some idea.
Riffster
I am looking for a mic myself, it looks like the Shure SM57 is the best for micing guitar amps. It is also a versatile micrphone as it works for vocals as well.
RichCI
What Stiffhand said. A 57 is a real workhorse and a classic that sounds good without a lot of fuss. There are others that are good as well, but you'll find that you have to do more experimentation with placement to get a good sound out of them - just stick the 57 up close halfway between the center and the edge of the cone and a bit off axis and you're there. Thundergod
For live usage I like the sm57, but for recording I like the Sennheiser e609 and e906 better... just personal taste, the sm-57 is the most used mic around the world when it comes to guitar amps. Try both, you'll be surprised with the e609 and it costs about the same.
