Seeing as the R0 is the rarest Custom shop guitar ( Compared to R8's and R9's that is ) and there are still only a handful in the UK and the rest of Europe, it would be nice to see a few pics of some.

Personally I think they are brilliant guitars, with a lovely comfortable neck and a bright woody midrange tone.

Here's a link to are a few pics of mine. Notice how the reds in the burst are begining to turn a more red /brown as it ages naturally. This is not a VOS, but a 2003 gloss model.

Link to R0 pics.

And fortunately Phil doesn't post pics here very often... I don't think I could take it. Many of you have nice guitars, but Phil's R0 always makes me go all wobbly and weak-kneed. :-

Very kind words Gentlemen..Thanks.

Yeah the pics are getting a bit old now, but my camera gave up the ghost. I'm trying to persude my wife I need a new Nikon or Canon SLR ... My hints have come to much yet.. ( Not after she found out the price..Damn LOL )

It's a pity there aren't that many R0's around. In fact as I mentioned earlier, only about 9 in the UK.

After a few experiments I have come to the conclusion that the R0 has a different acoustical tone compared to its fatter necked bretheren. Not superior, or inferior. Just different.

Since my initial madcap theory regards this, many people are now saying the same thing. The fatter necks = more bottom end. The slim taper 60's = more midrange honk.

Ironically all the recordings that many rave about.. Koss...Clapton's Beano album.. Page etc were all recorded on slim necked Les Pauls.

Let's hope we get some more R0 pics in here.. And I'd love to hear some tone reports too.

Why I got old Humph wasn't because of the look, although I must admit, I haven't seen an ugly R0, it was that a dealer guy I know kept raving about this Les Paul he had in Vegas and how it sustained for a month of Sundays.. At the time I was looking for a 60's neck Les Paul, so took his recommendation and he shipped it over.. Jesus ! When I opened the case and just brushed an open chord, the whole bloody case shook.;) . I can strum an open chord..Walk round my house and when I come back the headstock is still vibrating. Play a chord when you've got a strap on and you can feel the vibrations through the body on your chest. Yes old Humph is certainly a keeper.. I love the old fella...

Not sure about that flight. I know most of the R0's in the UK, mainly because all the eraly ones came over via this dealer I know, to another dealer in the UK and all brought in privately. I know that when Rossetti had Gibson dealership, they never ever imported one. Yeah you can see lots of dealers advertising them, but just phone one up and se if they have one.. They don't and all they'll say is.. We can get you one in about 12 weeks..LOL In other words we'll put an order in with Gibson in the States.

I once phoned a very big London west end dealer and asked if he had an R0 I could try.. The silly buggere didn't even know what one was and had to go and look it up, then it was the usual.. " We can get you one in about 12 weeks Sir ".

Have you ever tried one flight? The neck is like no other Les Paul you have tried.

I got mine shipped over from the States...

And yes - the neck is the best I've ever laid my hands on!

Oh, and where in Dorset are you? I'm in Bournemouth. I'm gonna go up for the forum event, it's only 90 mins away.

Beautiful guitar Steve...Congrats...

Is that a G0, or an R0? I haven't seen many plain top R0's . Most are G0's.. I love the finish on yours. One of the nicest plain tops I have seen..

I'm down near Lyme Regis in west Dorset.

Here's a bigger pic of Humph.

I can't believe you've not seen this snap yet as it's about the only one I have...

Still, if you haven't;

Mynewtoyv2-1.jpg

It pre-dates the Custom Shop run being one of the 'Historic Division' "Gingerbursts" from 1995.

I only got it last June. It had been part of a collection and was unplayed. The collector was raising funds to buy a genuine '60 (or so I was told!..........)

A spare kidney to hock is always handy when springing for an original...

There was actually a plain-top '60 (which had some non-original bits) for sale in the same dealership chain at the same time for about $ 90,000 which didn't seem too bad. I suspect (through several things that were said at the time) the 'collector' was a very good friend of someone in the shop and they wanted to get funds in quickly to buy the real one.

The neck on mine is the same as a regular R0 profile. I've since fitted gold '59 style knobs as I don't really go for the mirror knobs. As it's not a 'Tangerineburst' and the keys are single-ring Klusons it actually resembles an early 1960 and thus the 'Hat-box' knobs are a better match to an original in any case. I've kept the originals just in case I change my mind...

Phil,

I have never tried the R0. I have a Les Paul Goddess which the 60's slim taper neck. I loved it when I first played it as the difference was like putting on trainers after wearing boots meaning I could play her much faster, but I now enjoy the fatter necks better. I have large hands...Large belly, large *** and a large *$!"... =P~

And Steve....The sun's been shining all week!!! Get her outside for a snap or ten...

Regards
