EVH5445
I can't decided between the Peavey Windsor studio and the Marshall Haze combo. I take it they're both better then my Shity line 6 . . . .

Californiaman
Murph knows what he's talking about. He and KSG use those Mesa Amplifiers. If you've played one, you know what I'm talking about.
djroge1
Now wait a moment. I've played Mesa's and I do love my Mesa V-Twin pre-amp pedal but overall Mesa's aren't for me. I say find a sound you like and that you can make your own and save up for that amp.
Californiaman
Try some Fender Amplifiers out. The '57 Deluxe is a very responsive amp with a classic tone. Also, if you can find one, the Gibson GA-5 is a cool little 5 watt tube amp.
:oilpit:
I don't like Peavy amps in general, with the exception of the 5150, that thing screams. The Haze is gonna have digital effects, which generally suck. I am gonna +1 to Murph
deepblue
I'd save up and buy a real amp. Just sayin'...... I agree and ill tell you why. In the end youll get a sound thats lacking if you buy low end. Save....if it takes you half a year then so be it. Youll get quality and you wont have to wonder why you arent getting that tone you hear in your head. Save...be patient.
Thundergod
I agree with Murph and the others, no sense in spending money in an amp that will be only 50% of what you want when you already have a 30% kind of amp. Save for the "above 75%" amp, you'll not regret it. In the meantime, the 30% will do as much as any 50% would.
Mr. Robot
An Australian company called Ulbrick are making a big name in amps. They have just released a little 5 watt valve amp which I am told is similar to the Gibson GA5. I have not tried one yet - they are just as expensive - but here is a taste: http://www.ulbricksound.com/
GuitarJunkie
I guess I'll be the first to ask... What kind of sound are you looking for? Blues, metal, country? Who's tone would you say is the closest to what you're looking for? Are you looking to jam/gig or will this just be for your bedroom? A little info would help us help you. MikeRom
Pretty good price difference between them but I'm diggin' the Marshall. And if the effects suck, so what. Don't use 'em. I bet it sounds great.
rocketman
as long as it isn't a line six! I've owned a bunch and have played a bunch more. These days I'm sticking with my Line 6 Vetta II. All the aforementioned amps are good but none have the versatility of the Vetta II. I'll give up a little in tone (you don't give up a lot honestly) to get versatility... A Chinese Peavey is the bottom of the bucket. I'm not familar with the Marshall. Best of luck.
charlie brown
Fender Deluxe Reverb, Super Reverb or Twin Reverb! "Blackface" originals, if you can afford them. Otherwise, the reissues are decent. Marshall Plexi, 1/2 stack would be my next choice...actually, it's kind of a "toss up," as I love all those amps! Vox AC-30 is another great amp. Bit different tonal pallet, but great..none the less. I played with a guy that owns one of the old Vetta heads this week... sounded prety good, he has had it for years and so he knows how to dial great tones (most people dont give them things a fair chance, say a couple of months of trail and error... they just return them as soon as they can). The truth is, most people wont even notice (not the audience, not the others in your band, even soome guitar players wont notice the difference). And when you record it gets digitalized anyway. KSG_Standard
What's your budget? Do you ever plan on playing "live" with it? Quality tube amps cost $$$...
vagabond
What's your budget? Do you ever plan on playing "live" with it? Quality tube amps cost $$$... This is what I'm finding to be the real determining factor when giving advice to people on which amp to get. If you aren't going to play live, then that really knocks out like... any tube amp above 15 or 30 watts since if you do get anything much larger you aren't going to be able to crank the power tubes to really get the tube amp tone anyway. If you're a bedroom player, look for a 5 or 15 watt tube amp like the GA5 or the Blues Jr. However, since you play mostly hard rock and metal, you might not like either of those. And as always, play before you buy. Your ear will give you the best advice you've ever heard.

Thundergod
For metal you should consider a solid state amp, solid state amps will give you consistent metal distortion regardless of you playing them at 1 or at 10.
