hi ppl , i have a couple questions bout my studio, first it's a 2007 studio and my q's r my neck builds up with alot of film from sweetin and just playin the thing and it makes it hard to play cause it's so danm sticky,is there anything i can do to tone that down or eliminate it all together i have a schecter 006 elite and i never have that problem.

my next question is also about the neck,i have smaller hands and my les paul has a pretty thick neck, would it be possible to shave a little off the neck to thin it down or would it do serious damage to it's tone and structural integritey.

cheers

1. Lighter Fluid

2. You could sand down your neck a bit if you wanted to. I don't think I would do it to a Gibson, plus it would be a lot of work to refinish. If you didn't go insane though you could slim it down some. Anything like that is likely to have some effect on the tone, hard to say how much until you do it though... my guess would be not that much. I wouldn't take a wood plane to it though if that is what you are suggesting!

Dont need lighter fluid or anything like that' date=' take better care of the guitar[/quote']

Are you suggesting he stops sweating? :-s

I think sweetin means sweating...

Yes wash your hands before you touch the guitar and wipe down the guitar before and after you play it. Dont need lighter fluid or anything like that' date=' take better care of the guitar[/quote']I also have excesivly sweaty hands, and have just two words TALCOM POWDER (a.k.a Baby Powder). It works really well, and lasts a long time, just remember to wipe the neck, and the strings really good, before you put you guitar back in the case (as you should anyway).

You know, I haven't heard of doing this before, but that's a really good idea. I also have excessively sweaty and frequently dirty hands, and even though I wash before playing every time, my fretboard and neck still manage to get quite dirty after about a month. It works out, because I usually replace my strings about that time and just do a quick fretboard cleaning and conditioning while the strings are off.

But yeah, +1 on washing hands and wiping the guitar down after use. That'll help. I've heard of people using lighter fluid, but I've never tried it because I just don't feel good about it. The local shop recommended using the finest steel wool you can find to clean the fretboard, but I wouldn't do this to the neck as it will definitely scratch the finish.

Well I would recommend cleaning the guitar after each time you touch it or play it.. All my guitars get cleaned right after I play them *Dunlop Guitar Polish* and my guitars look better now then when I bought them.

Cheers,

Charlie
