Serial #'s

Hey friends, I'm sure this topic comes up every day but 1st time user & wanted to ask,,, How do i go about dating & finding history on my LP bass its quite an old one & has only 6 numerals beginning with 9 on the headstock, I've looked at Gibsons site & they seem only to be able to list serial #'s from 1975 onwards, which have more than 6 numerals,, I believe it could be as old as 1967, but I really want to be sure,, is there any where or any way I can check? I emailed Gibson stating the numbers but havent had any joy with them replying,,I guess they're real busy.

Please help if you can.

Earwig, I've emailed Gibson a few times and they've gotten back to me within the same day and they've gotten back to me a week later. If you don't hear back, email them again or try calling their 1.800 number.
