lmyers Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Hi, I'm due to receive a new Gibson GOTW #19 this week, but just wanted to know if the fretboard requires oiling before use? The posts I've seen on the internet imply that its more for maintenance after use rather than initial conditioning, but just wanted to check. Any advice? Thanks!

Just clean/condition the fretboard on your next string change.
LPguitarman Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 We must see pictures when it arrives. What is the GOW#19? I have a GOW#2 but there is now way I could remember all of the weeks.
flyingarmadillo Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 It's the one in his avatar. (But bigger pix would be nice!) http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Divisions/Gibson%20USA/Guitar%20of%20the%20Week/Les%20Paul%20Classic%20Antique%20Zebra/
lmyers Posted April 20, 2009 Author Posted April 20, 2009 Yes...its the zebrawood top. I'll upload some pics as soon as it arrives this week.
esch Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 I haven't seen that style LP before. Very cool. I love the intense grain.
callen3615 Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 It should be fine. PS. Dont apologize for "n00bie" questions.
project Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 I used fretboard conditioner on my first string change.
lmyers Posted April 21, 2009 Author Posted April 21, 2009 Well the courier just dropped it off....looks great. I'll try to upload some picks tomorrow. Question...are the humbuckers supposed to be firm within the plastic pickup surround? Mine seem loose, not so much that they move with the guitar, but if you touch them they move. Also...do all Gibson guitars come with certificates of authenticity? Although unused, I purchased through a private seller so just want to check if I should chase it up (it wasn't included in the case....only the standard Gibson manual).

[/quote'] Don't worry about the humbuckers, they are only attached by two screws with springs around them for tension, so they all move a little. Only custom shop Gibsons come with COAs (as far as i'm aware). She's a stunner by the way - congrats!
lmyers Posted April 21, 2009 Author Posted April 21, 2009 Ok...this is my first time at posting picks, so hopefully it works. This is my new beauty...
kman1980 Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 hey mate, nice lester! so what does she sound like? would you say that the zebrawood affects the tone in any particular way?
lmyers Posted April 21, 2009 Author Posted April 21, 2009 To be honest I haven't even had a chance to play her yet....just opened the box. Will let you know.
