I just bought my first Gibson...

Got a brand new Gibson Les Paul Standard (made in 2009) over the weekend and i love it. There are a few things that i'm not too pleased about.

1. The guitar didn't come with a COA; just a QC checklist and a user's manual. Is this normal for new Gibsons?? I bought it from a national guitar retailer.

2. The knobs on the guitar all seem to be a bit crooked, in that they kind of move up and down when you turn them.

3. The binding down the sides of the neck is a little bit rough to touch. However this doesn't seem to effect playability at all.

Anyone else had these problems?

Welcome to the world of Gibson guitars.Wonky controls ,dodgy binding, poor finishing, everything you didn,t expect its all here. At least they sound and play great when you get them set up properly. You will get used to it. Ive got five and they all have little faults but I love em. Think of it as character.

1. I may be wrong, but I think COA's only come from "Custom Shop Guitars". I didn't get one with my GOW#2 2007 Fireburst Classic Antique.

2. Try pressing down on the knobs. They may be pushed on crooked.

3. No problems with the binding on mine. Sorry.

Must have pictures...

Welcome to the forum!

COA's only come w/Custom Shop guitars. As for the workmanship, my limited experience w/the new Standard/Experimental has been that the knobs were very loose to begin with (almost toyish feeling if that makes sense). The binding shouldn't be rough, but if it doesn't adversely affect your playing then I don't see it as a problem if you don't mind it.

Looking forward to seeing pics!

Congrats on the new axe and welcome to the forum!

Answers to your questions:

1. See crossroadsync's reply

2. I have seen this on a few guitars now. Try removing the knobs and refitting them straight.

3. Shouldn't really be there, but if its not too bad, I wouldn't worry about it

Lets see those pics!!!=D>/

What?

Did somebody say Guitar Center?

:-)

Seriously, the ills described above would not be tolerated on an Epiphone.

The knobs wobbling may be no big deal - so the dealer should have no trouble making it right....

Finish issues are the responsibility of Gibson, unless the damage was done at the dealer.
