georgeg587 Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Can anyone out there tell me how I can get a part for my J200? I accidently snapped a tiny edge off of the truss rod cover which is one of the single ply tortose shell white bound units. I checked the local repair shops and stores without success so I called Gibson who told me that they would not sell me the part. This is extremely bad customer support. I am not asking for the part for free. Within the last 2 months I have purchased over $15,000 worth of Gibson guitars. (SJ200, Custom Shop Doves In Flight, 61 SG, SG Standard, Lucille and a Les Paul Custom) Why they can't send me a $2 part is beyond me. Anyone have any ideas?
Jayla Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Here's a recent thread on truss rod covers. You'll find some answers there (though not one to your question "why won't they give me one?").
powerpopper Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Here's a recent thread on truss rod covers. You'll find some answers there (though not one to your question "why won't they give me one?"). I'm not going to even get into "I wonder how someone manages to accidentally break a tiny piece off a truss rod cover," but I wonder what reason(s) they might have for not selling someone a replacement truss rod cover?
Jayla Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Sorry, I did not realize that you wanted to *buy* the part from Gibson. Whatever the case may be, as I wrote I don't know why they wouldn't just give you one.
rar Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 I wonder what reason(s) they might have for not selling someone a replacement truss rod cover? They only sell to dealers. Their whole sales system is set up for that. As for why they wouldn't give him one' date=' it kinda makes sense the Customer Service folks won't just give him a part that Gibson in the business of selling at a huge profit (see here). As for why his dealer won't just order him one, I have no idea. -- Bob R
ballcorner Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 They won't make the parts easy to purchase because they don't want them bought for fake guitars. It is frustrating, for sure, but no worse than what a person goes through with Martin on similar issues. And if you think they are bad, try Godin!
modoc_333 Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 just got to your dealer. let them call gibson. they have one guy they deal with and can easily make things happen.
