solacematt Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Any opinions on the amp. I've recently decided to possibly trade my 80's Marshall JCM800 head for a dual channel amp. I generally use my 800 head clean through a Marshall cabinet and run a Big Muff Pi Distortion in front of it for my dirty sound (Smashing Pumpkins Siamese Dream era distortion). The head is all original with the exception of the tubes which were recently replaced and is very clean/mint inside. I pretty much had an idea of what I wanted to trade the head for; Marshall DSL2000 head, TSL head, dual Channel Soldano Hot Rod Plus head, or Mesa Mark IV head. I got a few interesting trades but one peaked my interest as a few players I like have used them live and on favorite recordings (Incubus, Seether) ; a dual channel Mesa Rectoverb 100 watt head. I know I could easily get a moderne rock sound a la Creed, Nickelback, Seether, etc out of it but I was wondering how versatile an amp it was and if I would be able to get a similar wall of sound/noise type of distorted tone of this head like I'm used too as I still want to somewhat keep my Pumpkiny sound a bit. I'm not really a Mesa fan at all as I've had a Dual Rectifier sh!t the bed on me on tour once before, so that put a definate bad teaste in my mouth for newer Mesa's in general. I know a lot of the newer one's have a ton of problems so does anyone know how well these things hold up as far as road-worthiness is concerned (not that I treat my gear like crap but Mesa's aren't known as being the best well made amps either).
Hall Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Solacematt: How much money are you going to spend? Then I might have a suggestion for you to check out.
solacematt Posted April 21, 2009 Author Posted April 21, 2009 I'm not actually, looking to do a trade on it. I figure that way both parties will probably get something that they're actually going to use. I really don't want to trade it, especially if it's too a collector because than it's not going to be used, and that's sad.

KSG_Standard Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 I'm on my second Mesa, never had a problem with either of them. I gigged with a Mesa Mk II and treated it like crap, it never gave me any problems. My experience with Mesa amps has been great and I love the sounds that I can get from them.
