I'd buy The Beatles Complete Chord Songbook. It's got all the beatles songs in basic chord-over-lyrics format. I bring it along on group camping trips, since everybody knows the beatles.

The only guitar specific book that I own is Paul Balmer's The Gibson Les Paul Handbook. It gives some pretty basic setup tips, and there's tons of eye candy to check out.

The Gibson les Paul Handbook by Paul Balmer... Everything you need to know about keeping your Les Paul in shape and set up...

Guitar Player Repair Guide by Dan Erlewine... Les Gibson orientated, lots of Strat and acoustic stuff...

Blues Guitar for Dummies by Jon Chappell... Good all around stuff to know

How to Play Classic Jazz Guitar by Michael Lydon... Good for the beginner to advanced player...

I am currently engaged in reading "1000 Recordings To Hear Before You Die" by Tom Moon. Not guitar-related but music-related, it has given me a new, refreshing look at some old and some unknown works by composers and artists of virtually every musical genre. I can't imagine a musician NOT enjoying this book, although how it may or may not effect one's guitar-playing might be difficult to measure.

I also own this book and would recommend it as well, very comprehensive.

I would also suggest "This is Your Brain on Music" by Daniel J. Levitin. It is really fascinating.

Make sure you cut-n-paste those address into your browser as the links somehow are not complete. However, Dave Ramseys book "complete money make over" I hear is a really good book too.
